Rodrigues and Hinds celebrate player of the season awards
Sofia Rodrigues and Karl Hinds were among the winners at the Radisson

Goal machine Karl Hinds has been crowned Jersey FA's Premiership player of the season for 2022-23, with JTC Jersey Wanderers winger Sofia Rodrigues picking up the women's trophy.

At the traditional end-of-season awards dinner, at the Radisson Blu hotel, Hinds also collected the men's Golden Boot after notching exactly 50 times for Grouville in a remarkable campaign. The striker brought up his half century on Wednesday night at Springfield, in a 2-0 win over St Peter in the Jeremie Cup final. His form was enough for a re-call to Jersey's Muratti squad, coming off the bench last weekend to help Martin Cassidy's side to the narrow win in Guernsey.

Rodrigues impressed again this season, whether at full-back or wide in an attacking three. The youngster scored eight goals in her 15 appearances for Wanderers, including a superb strike in the recent Jersey FA Cup (Colin Welsh trophy) final. Her teammates Hannah Lynam and Sam Silva shared the Golden Boot, with 12 goals apiece.

Also among those celebrating were Jack Cannon and local photographer and sports reporter Daniel Andrade, who were both honoured by the Jersey FA. Cannon was presented with a Special Recognition Award for reaching 23 Muratti caps, putting him level with Jersey record holder Alan "Nash" Venton. The appearance in the 6-1 semi-final victory over Alderney earlier this season, in which Cannon scored, saw him to equal the long-standing record. Andrade, meanwhile, received the JFA Executive Award for the hundreds of hours spent covering local football for Sportscast Jersey.

Toni Cardoso took the referee of the year title ahead of fellow shortlisted nominees Mark Le Cornu and Harry Walker, the second consecutive year in which those three had made the shortlist.

Tom McAlister won the Championship player of the season award after netting 16 times in 15 games for St Brelade Reserves, while prolific scorer Clife Silva (Portuguese Community) won the Division One category with 34 goals in his side's title-winning season.

St Helyi's Jose Vares Martins was the winner of the Division 2 player of the season, while on a good night for Grouville, Luc Le Miere took the Over-35s award and Leandro Vieira won the under-18s.
